Working on creative direction and styling of the new collection for Knabstrup Ceramics today in an old abandoned factory close to Copenhagen. We wanted to create an authentic feeling with focus on the originat craftmanship and this old scenery was very appropriate and interesting.

Precious in Paris

For the 20th edition of Maison & Objet in September, we visited the fair where we had new products being presented at both Watt A Lamp and Stelton. During the fair, Francis had a chat with Anna Sansom from DAMN Magazine about design and his new products. You can read the full interview here.

Stealing the show at Stelton, the Scandinavian producer of kitchen products, was Francis Cayouette’s filter coffee maker in matte-black stoneware. Forming part of the Theo collection, it follows on from the teapot and cups launched earlier this year. The Canadian designer describes it as being “simple and back to basics”. As he says, “You have to relax, take your time, and go against this on-the-go coffee culture and the electrical devices.”

INSPIRATION BEHIND ONE STEP UP

APRIL 2014

preview.png
Multi-functionality is an important topic for me. I wanted to create a flexibly usable shelf which would be movable without burdensome disassembly, even creating new rooms in the house and in offices. The idea of including the form of a classic ladder which is easy to fold and move seemed logical to me. The result was a shelf with viewable mounting hardware and a wooden frame, similar to a ladder bit with the quality and composition of an exceptional piece of furniture.
